A loan of $3,350 helped a member to buy eggs at wholesale.

Rosas Blancas Group's story

The “Rosas Blancas" communal bank is beginning its second loan cycle through the Villa Exaltación regional office. It is made up of eight members, and Lidia is the chairperson. The livelihoods carried on in the group are varied, and include: selling pasancalla (sweet Bolivian popcorn), selling CD’s and DVD’s, making shawls and skirts, selling knick-knacks, selling chocolate, selling shaved ices, knitting sweaters and selling candy.

Lidia tells us that she joined a communal bank within Pro Mujer two years ago, and was invited to do so by the field worker. Currently she has a business distributing eggs through her store, work she has been doing for several years, having learned it in a previous job.

The loan she will take out now is to increase her capital (buying eggs at wholesale) which she will purchase in the city of Cochabamba and later sell in her store.

This form of work helps her family move forward, as she is in a common-law relationship and has two children.

When we asked her what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answered that she likes the health training.

In this group: Silvia , Dionicia, Bernardina Maria , Jhanneth , Sara , Eliza , Maria Gladys, Lidia
