A loan of $3,925 helped a member to buy leather for shoe business.

Afroditas Group's story

The AFRODITAS community bank is embarking on its sixth round of funding from the Centro Focal de Villa Exaltacion. The bank has eight members, led by their president, Sra. Jeersy. The bank's members operate various businesses that include: cosmetics sales; sales of paper and other school supplies; metal furniture production; cafeterias; and clothing and bedding manufacture and sales.
Sra. Jeersy tells us that she only joined the community bank recently--a friend invited her to join--and this will be her first Pro Mujer loan. She operates a business making and selling shoes. She has been a shoemaker for many years, a skill she learned from her brother.
She will use this loan for working capital (to buy leather). She buys leather from local wholesalers and sells what she makes at various markets in La Paz. Sra. Jeersy is single and the business is the sole source of income for her and her child.
When we asked her what she likes about Pro Mujer, she told us that she likes the health training she's received and access to credit.

In this group: Jeersy Olimpia , Maria Luisa , Ana Carolina, Mariana Luz, Leonor , Neyda Soledad , Pamela Reyna, Eulogia
