A loan of $600 helped to buy pigs and chickens for her animal sales business.

Maria Rafaela's story

María Rafaela, 30, is divorced. She has three children, 12-, 8-, and 5-years old, respectively. She lives with her children in Guaranda, a city in Bolivar province.

The Tagma Ruminahui community bank has 14 members. It is 25 minutes or so from our office. The members operate farming and livestock businesses.

María Rafaela is a farmer. She grows maize and raises pigs and chickens. She is applying for a loan that she will use to buy more animals. The investment will allow her to grow her business. She buys and sells what she needs in Guaranda every 15 days or so.

For the future, María Rafaela wants to buy a house of her own and see her children finish school. Her biggest challenges are transportation and competition from other animal sales businesses.

In her spare time, María Rafaela likes to rest! She also enjoys local fairs.
