Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,125 helped to buy ingredients for making her dishes as well as fried dough, ice cream, and soft drinks to sell.

Diana Soraya's story

Diana is 32 years old, married, and has two children. She lives in a neighborhood of Baracoa Cortes.

For more than eight years, she managed her own business of selling food such as fried chicken with plantains, pork chops, and chicken and beef turnovers. She also sells ice cream, soft drinks, and fried dough. Diana has always enjoyed the retail trade and previously sold clothes for a living, but she saw that the food business was more profitable.

She is requesting a loan of 21,000 HNL so that she can invest in the purchase of supplies for preparing food and other products. This will help maintain the inventory of her business and result in more earnings. Her goal is to continue working so that her business can grow. On a personal level, she hopes to develop as a businesswoman and have a better standard of living.
