A loan of $750 helped a member to buy fertilizers and rice seeds for her farmland.

Sam's Group's story

Originally from a village in the Sa Ang district of Kandal province, Sam, 49, is widowed and has five dependent children, two daughters and three sons. Three of the children are still in school. Rice farming is the family's only source of income. Having been in this business for 17 years, Sam is able to make a daily income of 16,000 KHR and manages to save about half of it for future needs.

Sam has been with VisionFund for three loan cycles and has completely repaid her loans, which have enabled her to manage some savings. Sam and her two group members, who have been with VisionFund for one to three loan cycles, are applying for a loan of 1,000,000 KHR each. As the leader, Sam is going to use her portion to buy fertilizers and rice seeds for her farmland and to purchase gasoline for a pumping machine to carry water into her rice field. She hopes this loan will enable her to grow healthy rice and to sell it for a good price to make a better living and to build on some savings.
