A loan of $1,000 helped to buy soda, prepared juices and supplies for making food.

Lourdes Patricia's story

Every two weeks, the members of the 'Plazoleta Eloy Alfaro' community bank meet in '30 de Septiembre' neighborhood, in Rocafuerte canton. This area is known for the delicious sweet treats that the locals prepare. They are well known all over the country.

This is where we get to know Lourdes. Lourdes is 41 years old, married, and has a 20-year-old son who is engaged but still lives with her. Her husband works in commerce.

Our friend works as a teacher in an elementary school in the town. In addition, she also works in commerce in order to earn some extra money. She has a cart where she sells empanadas, 'deditos' (cheese fingers), tortillas, juice, soda and other products. She tells us that her husband takes care of the business in the mornings but in the afternoons she and her husband both work because they have more customers then. They work from 6.00am to 7.00pm. They have been in this business for more than five years and the business has allowed them to get ahead in life.

This loan will be used to buy soda, prepared juices and supplies for preparing food. This is Lourdes' fourth loan cycle as a member of this community bank and she likes it because the loans have very low interest rates.

Lourdes' dreams are to make progress in her classes and in her business.
