A loan of $575 helped to purchase organic fertilizer.

Julia's story

Julia is 38 years old and married to Nemesio, with whom she has five children. She has made a living in agriculture since she was 17 years old. She learned the trade helping her parents with the crops and harvests, and now that she has her own family she does it with all her effort. She has eight plots of land cultivating coffee and a little bit of bananas. "This year I harvested 30 to 40 sacks of coffee, but next year I will harvest more," she says. That is how it is with the first harvests of a new crop. She has two parcels that have already matured and each year their production grows, depending on the conditions and the amount of fertilizer she spreads out. Julia will continue working in the field because it is what she likes to do and it is what she uses to provide and will continue to provide for her family until the end of her days, she says. This will be her seventh loan from Kiva partner MFP, and she promises to make her payments on time. She belongs to the “Huacamayo” community bank, where the members are responsible and close-knit. She plans to use the loan to purchase bags of organic fertilizer for her plots of coffee and bananas.
