A loan of $1,325 helped to buy banana plants and bags of fertilizer.

Luz's story

Luz, age 27, and her life partner, Camilo, have two children, ages nine and seven.

Luz has been working in agriculture for ten years. She learned how to do this from her parents, and she perfected her work alongside her husband. Thanks to her effort she has been able to get her two school age children ahead.

Luz produces coffee and oranges on two parcels of land. She says that harvesting the citrus is less tiring and less of an investment. However, the prices they sell for at times are not so good. Now she will plant bananas.

Luz is confident that she will get new land and produce more coffee and oranges. This is one of her closest goals.

This is her seventh loan with MFP. She gives her word that she will be punctual with her monthly payments. She belongs to the Huacamayo communal bank. She is happy that it has enterprising members.

She will use the money from this loan to buy banana plants at 50 cents per each one. She will also buy bags of fertilizer to successfully start her next planting.
