A loan of $750 helped to buy more vegetables to sell.

Alfonso's story

Alfonso is 42 years old. His partner is Lucy, the mother of their five children, but they only live with two of them (ages 15 and 4). The house they rent is located in the rural district of Vista Hermosa.

Alfonso has been farming since he was a boy and performed this type of work with his parents. He grow beans, peas, corn, potatoes, lettuce, cauliflower, and other vegetables on parcels of land that he leases by paying money or bartering for his products. Four years ago, he also decided to start buying and selling vegetables that he acquires from his neighbors or at the wholesale market in the city. With the help of Lucy, he takes his merchandise to another city located an hour and a half away. "Selling in La Oroya is profitable because nothing is produced there since it is a mining town," says Alfonso. He hopes to have financial stability so that he can support his young children without any problems.

This is the fifth loan that he has acquired from MFP. He promises to complete his payments on time, just as he did on previous occasions. Alfonso will use the money to acquire merchandise that he needs (vegetables of all types) so that he can sell in the city of La Oroya.
