A loan of $550 helped to buy piglets.

Lucio Alejandro's story

Lucio was born in 1978 in the province of Imbabura in northern Ecuador. He lives with his wife and children in the Nanegalito Parish, in the capital city of Ecuador, Quito. Quito is in the Andes Mountains, at 2,800 meters above sea leve, making it the third highest capital in the world. In 1978, Quito was desginated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of how it combines nature and infrastructure in a unique way in its category. Quito is divided into three parts: the Historical Center which is Colonial Quito, the North, where the upper classes live and the South, known as "the poor side" of the city.

Lucio raises and sells animals, and has been working 12 hours a day for the last two years. He is sorry that he never had the opportunity to continue with his secondary education or go to college, but, despite this limitation, he is confident that if he invests in his business he will be able to help his family get ahead. Therefore, he is requesting a loan through Kiva to increase the number of piglets he has and improve sales. This will give him more income and the opportunity to provide his children with an education.
