Nelly Esther's story

Nelly, 58, is a woman with a very joyful spirit and above all she tells us that although she may be 58, her spirit is that of a 20 year old because the years pass but joy and the zest for life should always be like that of a young person. Nelly’s home is in the beautiful city of Pisco, a city known for its agriculture, fisheries, for its tourist attractions such as the Ballestas Islands and the Candelabro de Paracas, also its beautiful beaches, and above all for the generosity of its people. Nelly is very a skillful knitter so when she has free time she really likes to knit, mostly sweaters and scarves among other things. She also likes to cook one of her favorite dishes which is very delicious “Arroz con Pato” [Rice with duck]. Because of the limited economic resources of her parents, Nelly was only able to study through high school, but she would have liked to study nursing.

Every day, Nelly gets up very early to go work in her business of selling flowers. She works approximately 10 hours a day and can attend up to 30 customers a day. She is always very kind and because of this she believes she does well in her business because her customers always leave happy and also because she is very honest and very creative in making the flower arrangements.

Nelly is very happy and very grateful for the help she has received from the Kiva loans. Thanks to the help that they have given her she will be able to buy more merchandise for her business such as flowers in bundles since each bundle comes with many flower varieties. With this she will be able to improve her earnings and will have a greater variety of flowers especially for Father’s Day because during this time there are a greater number of customers. She will keep working with the joy and desire that she is known for so that she can keep fighting to accomplish her greatest dream: “To build a home with good materials and to have another stall from which to sell flowers.”
