Fatmata H.'s Group's story

Pictured above are teachers from one of the primary schools in Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, based in Makeni, to seek a loan of 18,100,000.00 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) in order to invest in items that are beyond their salaries' limits. At the end of each month, they will repay the loan from their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for making the repayment on their behalf.

The leader of this team is Fatmata, 57 years old. She is a native of Kambia, in northern Sierra Leone, and is married to a school supervisor. Fatmata has three children, two of whom are in tertiary institutions. Fatmata has been a professional teacher for thirty-two years. She has requested this loan in order to pay college fees for her children.
