Fatuma's Chimbuko Group's story

Fatuma, age 51, is married and has four children, ages 21, 19, 17 and 4 . For the past six years, she has made a living selling cosmetics and food. She works from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and makes a monthly profit of around $26.

In the past, Fatuma took out two loans from Tujijenge Tanzania to start her businesses. Now she has applied for a new loan to increase her capital and expand these businesses. Fatuma will share this loan with the Chimbuko group, which has 15 members. These members will hold each other accountable for paying back their loans. They run a variety of businesses which sell food, soft drinks and beer, oil, clothing, charcoal and other items.
