A loan of $600 helped to buy four sacks of fertilizer and herbicides, and to pay laborers so that he can sow 10,500 square meters of corn, sorghum and chilipuco beans.

Tereso De Jesús's story

Tereso is 61 years old, married, and has five children. He has been a farmer since he was six years old, having been taught by his dad. He grows corn, sorghum and chilipucos (which are similar to kidney beans only larger). In order to buy his farm supplies, Tereso walks ten minutes along a dusty road then catches a bus for a ten minute ride to the place where he buys his supplies.

The gentleman is requesting this loan to buy four sacks of fertilizer and herbicides, and to pay laborers so that he can sow 10,500 square meters of corn, sorghum and chilipuco beans. First he sows his corn. After 22 days he sows the sorghum in the same place and then, in August, he sows the chilipuco beans. He will use his loan to buy everything he needs for his crops. He will apply the supplies to his crops at the right time and in a suitable manner so that he can improve his production and enjoy a better harvest than last year. Tereso would like to grow more than he does right now. He says that this loan will help him to buy the supplies he needs and pay laborers.
