A loan of $4,150 helped a member to buy furniture.

Alaxpacha Group's story

The “ALAXPACHA” community bank are starting their second loan cycle as part of the Juan Pablo II regional office. The group has eight members and their president is Julia. The members all work in different activities including running a neighborhood store, wood turning, making footwear, selling vegetables, selling blankets, knitting woolen hats and selling animals.

Julia tells us that this is her second loan cycle as a member of a Pro Mujer community bank. She was invited to join by one of her goddaughters. Julia's business is selling vegetables. She has been in this business for a number of years.

Julia's current loan will be used to equip her sales location with furniture. She will buy these items in the street markets in the city of La Paz and then install them in her sales location. This work helps her to support her family. Julia lives with her common-law husband and the couple have two children.

When we asked her what she likes about Pro Mujer, Julia replied that she likes the savings and the insurance.

There is a lady in the back row of the photo who is dressed in dark blue. This lady is Bertha's daughter and she accompanied her mother to the loan disbursement meeting.

In this group: Julia , Gricelda Rosario, Sonia , Sofía , Rosmery , Marisabel, Bertha, Maria Elena
