Cerapio's story

Cerapio is a Peruvian textile artisan who specializes in hand woven rugs and tapestries. He would like to renovate and expand his workshop.

Cerapio has been selling through NOVICA since 1999. This is his story:

Cerapio was forced to leave his home in Ayacucho during the 1980s. "Terrorists were bleeding my people to death and there seemed little hope. I inherited my passion for weaving from my parents and grandparents. But the quality of my work is the result of my long experience, and a product of my careful observation over the years. I draw inspiration from our ancient Peruvian cultures, Andean village life, and from our snow-capped mountains."

"Over the past 12 years, I've expanded my artistic repertoire from a few designs to a large collection of rugs and tapestries. I've been able to offer work to other textile artisans from my hometown, and train new ones as well. I am proud of carrying on my family's artisan legacy, and I'm very grateful for your support."
