A loan of $1,500 helped a member to purchase fabric, thread, needles, and other supplies.

Maria Group's story

This communal bank, called MARIA, originated through actions taken by one of its members. Eager to help her friends and neighbors, she approached our foundation to learn more about it, and that is how the group emerged. It has twelve members, all of which have their own businesses, which they pursue no matter how small.
Maria is one of its members, and she says she has managed to get ahead and grow through much sacrifice and effort. She says she is a dressmaker, and that she makes all kinds of items at her machine, such as clothing, sheets, blankets, and others. They are all very good, which is why she already has a good amount of customers.
She is requesting the loan so that she can buy fabric, thread, needles, and other supplies, which will allow her to fill the orders she gets from her customers.
