A loan of $1,325 helped to purchase natural fertilizer for his crops.

Teófilo's story

Teofilo is 47 years old. He is a very hard-working man. Thirteen years ago, he purchased a plot of land where he built a house out of wood. He currently lives there with his wife and three children.

He produces cocoa on his plot of land, which he has been doing for twenty-three years. He was able to purchase the land with his parents’ help. He works with the help of his wife and children, but during the harvest he hires workers to pick the cocoa beans more quickly. Later, he sells them at collection centers where he receives a good price per pound. He invests the earnings from his harvest in the maintenance of his crops and in his children’s school expenses. He also uses them to feed his family on a daily basis.

Teofilo is grateful for the financial support that MFP [Microfinanzas Prisma] provides him since he will be able to achieve his goals with it. Additionally, he is grateful to be a part of his communal bank because each of its members are responsible. With the 3,500 PEN [$1325] loan, he will purchase bags of natural fertilizer to keep his cocoa fields fertile.
