Cuenca, Ecuador / Cosmetics Sales

A loan of $1,200 helped to buy cosmetics.

Chela Beatriz's story

Chela is a member of the communal bank "Yanbal." She lives in the Balzay neighborhood of Cuenca. In this area there are a lot of places to visit and places to fish, and there are cabins where one can enjoy nature. The people here are friendly and gracious, and they still maintain the culture and traditions of their towns.

Chela is 42 years old and is married. She and her husband have 3 children, aged 18, 17 and 13. Her oldest son has completed some university classes, and the other two continue to study in a school in the city. Her husband is a cabinetmaker and has his own workshop. They own the house that they live in.

Chela devotes herself to the household chores and care of their children, but in order to support the household finances she also works selling Yanbal brand cosmetics. She works in this activity every day without a fixed schedule.

Chela has been a member of her communal bank for 7 years. She will use the money from this loan to buy cosmetics so that she has a greater variety of products. Her goal is to see her children become professionals.
