A loan of $650 helped to buy a variety of hardware items and also spare parts for pressure cookers and fans.

Nelly Esther's story

Nelly is 53 years old. She is married and has two children with whom she lives in Las Nieves neighborhood. This is where she sells hardware products such as screws, spare parts, wire, electric components, pipes, ironwork, etc. Sometimes Nelly lacks capital with which to buy more stock. She is requesting her first Kiva loan so that she can invest in buying new products for her hardware store and also spare parts (mainly for pressure cookers and fans). Nelly started her business through her husband who received some money from his pension and bought a display case in which to stock some articles in their living room. Gradually their orders grew, as did their customer base. Up to now the business has done very well and has been popular with their neighbors. Their dream is to further grow their business and to have better infrastructure so that they can also start to offer general store products and other miscellaneous goods. This will help to increase their profits. Nelly works every day in order to fulfill her dream. She is a hard-working woman who is devoted to her family.
