A loan of $2,150 helped to print copies of his books to sell.

Kurt's story

Some know Kurt as the fastest foot messenger in New York City. But, Kurt is also a writer who self-publishes novels, poetry and non-fiction inspired by his 15+ years of experience as a messenger. He has published five works thus far. He says, "My business is 100% a passion of mine! Ever since I was young I have been writing. After years being a bike messenger and getting to know every part of this city. I realized I had stories that other people would like to hear."

In 2009, Kurt was featured in the NYTimes. He was quoted saying, "I’ve been to so many bodegas and stores all over the city, traveled so many train lines, seen so many different communities and people and it hit me: This American Dream thing is real. People actually come as far away as India or China and start a business and actually work to believe in this thing. I took it for granted, but now I believe it. I actually experienced it."

Kurt has had the opportunity to collaborate with many great artists, photographers, writers, filmmakers and other bikers on his books and messenger bag designs. He will used this loan to print more copies of his most popular books – Asphalt Warrior & New York Alleycat - and attend upcoming festivals where he plans to sell them. In the future he would like to enhance e-commerce functions on his website to sell more books directly to customers.
