A loan of $1,225 helped to buy more shoes for resale.

Mary's story

Mary is 29 years old and lives in the town of Buwenge in the Jinja region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past 3 years, Mary has been working hard to manage her small business, which sells shoes.

To help expand her business, Mary has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more shoes for resale, and will help Mary to generate greater profits and pay for her family's medical expenses. She hopes that in the future she will be able to expand the business into a grocery shop that sells sugar.

Mary is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Mary who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for micro-loans.
