A loan of $575 helped to buy natural compost for his coffee plants.

Mario's story

Mario is 49 years old and married to Constanza. They have eight children, but live with seven of them. They own their home, which was built with great effort. Mario resides in the community of Sanchirio.

He is one of the long-time residents of his community, so he feels great affection for this area. Throughout this entire time, according to Mario, he has been able to move forward with his neighbors by growing coffee. In addition, he grows bananas. By coordinating with one another, Mario and the other residents opened a coffee cooperative where the harvested products are collected and sold to companies from other countries that pay them a good price. By working in this manner, Mario is able to support his family and provide them a few luxuries. With his savings, he also opened a grocery and food store that he manages when the farm work is completed.

This is his fifth loan with MFP and he is pleased to be part of his Communal Bank "Progreso del Palomar" because all of the members are equally responsible. Mario will use this loan to buy bags of natural compost, such as chicken manure, for fertilizing his coffee plants.
