A loan of $5,000 helped a member to buy hubcaps and tires.

Los Angeles (Cuenca) Group's story

The 'Los Ángeles' community bank is made up of six women and three men who live in different areas of the city of Cuenca. This city has great cultural wealth and in December 1999 it was declared a World Heritage Site. It also has great natural beauty as it is surrounded by four rivers and a number of places where people can go to enjoy nature. The local cuisine is very varied and delights the palates of locals and visitors alike. The local people are kind, friendly, and have warm hearts, as do our members. Our members work in different business activities that allow them to contribute financially towards their households and provide for their families. They continue to maintain the culture and traditions of their people.

Ruth is one of the members of this group. She is 50 years old, married, and has three children who are all adults. Only one of her children is married but he still lives at home, sharing the household expenses. Her two single children work to cover their own personal expenses. Her husband works in commerce. They do not own their own home but rent instead.

Ruth works in real estate. She has been in this business for 22 years. She works from Monday to Saturday and does not work regular hours. She also sells hubcaps and tires.

Ruth has been a member of her community bank for three years and she will invest her new loan in buying hubcaps and tires so that she she can continue in her business.

Our member's dream is very special as she would like to set up a foundation for children with different abilities.

The small photo is of a member who was not able to be present when the group photo was taken.
