Rosa's story

Rosa is 60 years old. Her spirit and happiness is like that of a young 20 year old. She tells us that she’s only old on the outside because if you’re young on the inside, your age stays on the side. She is very enthusiastic and hard-working. Her home is located in the city of Ica. The city has a very mild climate. It is known for its agriculture, especially the cultivation of grapes, asparagus, butter beans, and paprika, among other crops. The Huacachina Lake is located here. It is well visited all year by lots of tourists. Rosa likes her work a lot but when she has a little free time, she likes to prepare one of her favorite recipes which are delicious “Tallarines Verdes” (noodles with Peruvian green sauce). Due to little access to financial recourses, she could only study until the fifth grade of secondary school but she would have liked to earn a university degree.

Day by day, Rosa works selling shoes door to door. She works in the morning and in the afternoon. She can see up to ten customers a day. She believes that her business is going well because she offers quality products and more than anything, comfortable prices.

Rosa is very happy and is grateful for the Kiva lenders. Thanks to the help they have offered she will be able to purchase shoes and boots to offer in her business. It is now winter and she will need to have more variety of products. She will improve her earnings and her quality of life which will allow her to continue working and more than anything, continue moving forward with her search to fulfill her biggest dream of completing the construction of her own home.
