A loan of $500 helped to buy cosmetic products and increase her permanent stock.

María Elena's story

María Elena, 67, is married and lives with her husband in one of the rural communities in the farm district of Tambogrande, an area known for its production of fruits such as mango and lemon. The rural zone of this district of the Piura Region is also known for its limited lifestyle because it does not have basic utilities. In María Elena's case, she only has electricity.

For over ten years she has been selling cosmetics by catalogue. She has a fixed group of customers who always order their products in advance because her business works on an order basis. She also keeps a permanent stock of products so she can respond to certain clients who do not wish to wait for their order (some orders can take up to a month for delivery).

She also raises sheep, which she sells at the local market. Her husband is a farmer and grows mangoes and lemons on his own land. With both of their incomes they are able to support their family.

María Elena wants to buy more cosmetics to increase her permanent stock and continue expanding her business. Therefore, she has requested a loan in the amount of 1,300 PEN through Edpyme Alternativa.
