A loan of $750 helped to buy fertilizer for his coffee plants.

Jorge's story

Jorge is a young, single man of 36. The house where he lives belongs to him, as he bought the land three years ago and built the house with local materials.

He has been growing coffee for 10 years. During that time he managed to buy his own land, and has two hectares with coffee plants. At harvest time he has the help of day laborers who harvest the coffee berries rapidly. Afterwards, he takes them to the collection centers to sell, where they pay him a good price for each kilo of his crop.

In time, he wishes to buy himself a vehicle that will help him transport his coffee sacks, as they are very heavy. But his priority now is to carry out maintenance on his plants, in order to obtain good production during these months of June and July, as this is the harvest season.

This is his second loan with MFP, and he feels happy to continue receiving this financial support, as this way he will continue with his plans for getting ahead. In his communal bank, he is a very responsible member, and feels proud to have supportive people in their group.

With the money from this loan, he will buy fertilizer, that he will spread after this harvest so that he can continue producing good coffee.
