Berna's story

Berna lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is married with five children who are all in school. She takes care of two additional family members (father and mother).

She operates a retail shop that she rents. She operates her business on a retail basis. She gets additional income from rental houses. She works seven days a week. She has been in business for the last 10 years. She has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan shillings from MCDT – SACCO to buy more sugar, rice, flour, soap, cooking oil and crates of soda. Her major business challenges are transportation and the ever-increasing prices of commodities. Her dream is to educate her children up to university and to become wholesaler. She lives in her own house and the family has access to electricity but not piped water. Her major monthly expenses include school fees, rent for her business premises and food.
