A loan of $1,000 helped to buy agricultural supplies to plant 28,000 square meters of sorghum and 3,500 square meters of corn.

Rufino's story

Rufino is 46 years old, married and has three children. He has been a tractor driver since he was 18 years old. He went to Guatemala, being there, working as a day laborer and learning to drive an agricultural tractor for many bosses. Agriculture is work he inherited from his parents, and after they returned to Guatemala he began with his own work, as before he worked together with his family.

Rufino buys all his agricultural supplies in a city in the east of the country, although he comments that this year he will take advantage of the opportunity of the agricultural package provided by the government of the country to reduce expenses.

The loan that he is applying for through Fundacion Campo, is to buy agricultural supplies in order to plant 28,000 square meters of sorghum and 3,500 square meters of corn. He also rents land to other people. Currently he is unemployed and a big opportunity has come along because of the rains in order to plant and later grind the grass in order to later sell it. In this way his income will improve substantially, as hay sold in times of shortages for the livestock. He would like to work with his own livestock, because he has worked long enough with other people’s and now would like to do it with his own.
