Hellen's story

Hellen lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is a single mother with four children, all of whom are in school. She also takes care of her sister, who also goes to school. She rents a house with electricity and piped water. Her major monthly expenses include various fees, food expenses, and rent.

To earn a living, she sells sweet bananas in the evening by the roadside. She has been in this business for the last six years, working seven days per week. During the day, she cleans roads in the city center.

She has requested a loan in the amount of 1,500,000 UGX from MCDT- SACCO to enable her buy more bunches of bananas for sale. Her business challenges include seasonality, transportation costs, and thieves. Her dream is to sell sweet bananas at wholesale prices to other vendors. She would also like to build her own house . She joined MCDT because the interest the organization charges on loans is low when compared to other money lending institutions.
