Betty's story

Betty lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is married with thirteen children, and ten of them go to school. She takes care of other additional family members.

Betty sells fruits and vegetables at the market. She operates her business on a retail basis. She works seven days a week and has been in this business for the last 18 years.

She has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from MCDT – SACCO to buy watermelon, passion fruits, pineapples, oranges and mangoes. Her major business challenges are transportation, thieves and seasonality. She is aspiring of seeing her business grow bigger and to start selling on a wholesale basis only and also to educate her children up to university.

She lives in her own house where the family has access to electricity and piped water. Her major monthly expenses include school fees and feeding the family.
