A loan of $3,600 helped a member to buy an overlock sewing machine and an embroidery machine.

Dilkosh's Group's story

Dilkosh is a married Iraqi woman. She is 27 years old and a mother of one child. With limited career options due to cultural restrictions and domestic constraints, Dilkosh is one of the many Iraqi women who work from home, using her sewing skills to generate some income and participate in meeting the financial needs of her family.

She has been busy with her little sewing/tailoring business for the past two years, and working from home, she is constantly looking for ways to improve her opportunities.

In the past, Dilkosh received and successfully repaid a loan to Relief International - Microfinance Iraq. At the time, she purchased a sewing machine and some raw materials. To make further improvements to the variety of jobs she can offer her customers, Dilkosh would like to buy an overlock sewing machine and an embroidery machine. In order to make these purchases, Dilkosh requested a new loan from Relief International - Microfinance Iraq.

Relief International - Microfinance Iraq offers "Group loans" for clients unable to provide a guarantor, thereby unable to apply for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of three to five clients, and each client is evaluated based on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group.
