A loan of $3,600 helped a member to buy an overlock sewing machine and additional quality fabrics and raw materials.

Aryan's Group's story

Aryan is 32 years old. She is a married Iraqi woman with two children. With limited career options due to cultural restrictions and domestic constraints, Aryan is one of the many Iraqi women who work from home, using her sewing skills to generate some income and participate in meeting the financial needs of her family.

Aryan has six years of experience in the small business activity. Working from her home, she makes custom order dresses and small household items.

In the past, she received and successfully repaid a loan to Relief International - Microfinance Iraq which she used to replace her old sewing machine and purchase fabric. Aryan would like to further improve her work opportunities and offer more to her customers. She would like to buy an overlock sewing machine and additional quality fabrics and raw materials. To make these purchases, she requested a new loan from Relief International - Microfinance Iraq.

Relief International - Microfinance Iraq offers "Group loans" for clients unable to provide a guarantor, thereby unable to apply for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of three to five clients, and each client is evaluated based on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group.
