Portoviejo, Ecuador / Grocery Store

A loan of $500 helped to buy rice, sugar, cooking oil, liquor, etc.

Mariana's story

The members of the communal bank "Crucita" meet in Crucita parish in the canton of Portoviejo. This town is known for the gorgeous beaches that surround this beautiful place, that are visited by many national and international tourists. It is known by the name "Crucita la Bella" (Crucita the beautiful).

Here we meet Mariana, who is 67 years old, married and has 2 grown children who are independent. Her husband is a professional driver.

Our friend Mariana has a store in her house where she sells a variety of products such as: rice, sugar, cooking oil, detergents, other household items, liquors, soft drinks and certain medicines. She works every day from 6am until 10pm, and at times until even later. Her husband helps her with her work when he's not busy. She tells us that she has had this store for more than 32 years, and it has given her a lot of financial and personal satisfaction.

She will use this loan to stock up her store, by purchasing rice, sugar, cooking oil, liquors, and other products. She has been with her communal bank from the start, and she likes it because of the help they give her with the loans.

Her dream is to have good health.
