Luis Tovias's story

Luis, 50 years old, is married to María who is 46 years old. Despite having 4 children only one lives with them, the other 3 are adults and independent. He lives in San Miguel de los Bancos which is a rural canton in the province of Pichincha, where the capital of Ecuador can be found. One of the main resources of los Bancos is the water which originates in its territory including a large number of brooks and little springs that lead to rivers of considerable size. This canton has a a large, buoyant commercial movement in the main street, where the hotels, restaurants and stores can be found, especially agricultural and veterinary services and stores for the daily needs of the residents. While his wife takes care of the house, Luis works raising chickens in order to sell them later and this is how he supports the household. He works approximately 12 hours a day and what he considers the most difficult part of his work is transporting the chickens when they are going to be sold. Luis wants to invest in the purchase of baby chickens, he wants to make a good investment to increase his income and thus improve his lifestyle. The expansion of this business is a step towards fulfilling his longing to improve conditions for his family.
