A loan of $1,075 helped to buy baby pigs to raise.

Edison Javier's story

Edison is a single, 24 year-old man who lives by himself in "San Miguel de Los Bancos," which is a rural canton of Pichincha province. This province also contains the capital of Ecuador. One of the principal resources of San Miguel de Los Bancos is its water, as there are countless rivulets and small waterfalls that originate in this territory and give rise to rivers of considerable size. This canton has a lot of commerce that is developing on the main street, where there are hotels, restaurants, and stores; above all there are agricultural products, and also veterinary services and shops for the daily needs of the population.

For 4 years, Edison has had a business raising pigs to later sell at a better price. His daily work takes about 12 hours a day, and he does all of this in able to have a quite modest life. He has two dependents to support because, although he is not married, he must pay child support for his two children. He started this activity on his own account; he is the only one in his family who does this kind of work. He wants to invest in the purchase of baby pigs; this is how he will use the loan. With this purchase, he plans to expand his production, because he has the space to do it.

Edison has only an elementary school education, but this has not kept him from becoming an outstanding entrepreneur and worker. His dream is to someday have his own automobile and continue in this same business.
