Pc Malicounda Group's story

This group of women are members of a "banc villageois" which was formed in 2008. The group comprises 19 women who live in the same village. They are united by common social bonds and their main business is retail.

Birane (sitting on the left of the picture, with her hand raised) is a 75-year-old married woman and the mother of 3 adult children. She has been a retailer for a long time and is very experienced in this area. Her new loan of 125 000 francs will enable her to restock on merchandise. The profits generated by her business allow her to pay for her grandsons' education, to buy food and to pay contributions to the mutual fund.
