A loan of $625 helped to purchase coffee plants.

María Modesta's story

María Modesta learned from her father when she was a child to perform all tasks related to coffee, from clearing the plantation to building a nursery, plowing the land, and sowing. She currently works on her own land, and between her, her husband Orlando, and their children, they manage to do everything.
The coffee she produces is conventional and they want to switch to organic. If they don't have to use chemical fertilizers, in the long run that will benefit the preservation of their land and mainly the environment. In order to do this, they need to prepare the land, purchase new plants and sow, which is the reason why she needs a loan.
If she performs all these tasks she will be able to be harvesting organic coffee in three years' time, and her production will also increase. This will allow her to obtain higher earnings, which she wants to reinvest in purchasing a new piece of land in order to increase her family's estate.
María Modesta and her husband are very happy because they are expecting a new member of their family, for she has been pregnant for a few months.
