Kunduz is an older woman, but she is a very strong person. She gave birth to and brought up 10 children. A few years ago her husband passed away. After her husband’s passing, she herself found the means to pay for her sons’ and daughters’ weddings. She has been raising livestock for some 40 years. At present her children help her in this business. They fatten livestock and sell at the market. This business is the sole source of income for the family. Kunduz is receiving her first loan to buy livestock. In the future, she plans to save money and build a house for her grandchildren so that they wouldn’t have the difficulties she and her children had to face. Kunduz is very much hoping for your help.

About MDO Arvand

MDO Arvand is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Tajikistan, offering small loans to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.
