A loan of $2,525 helped to buy cattle to butcher.

Katia Victoria's story

Katia Victoria, 34, is from Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca where one of the economic activities is raising cattle, goats, horses and to a lesser degree barnyard fowl.

Doña Katia, as she’s better known, has worked butchering beef for seven years. She’s very happy because her husband, Carlos, had started the business. She says that she got this business thanks to her husband, Carlos, who had been a butcher for ten years but unfortunately he died and she was left in charge of the butcher shop that’s located in her community’s market.

Doña Katia mentions that one of the characteristics a person must have to do her work is to be charismatic with people, to be kind so that people will return to buy and above all to be a strong woman who likes heavy work.

She says that with help from Kiva and Vision Fund (FRAC) she will buy more cattle to butcher. She thanks the institutions for helping working women with the desire and the strength to improve.
