Grupo Los Globos Group's story

The “Los Globos” (The Balloons) group is composed of nine persons: Lázara who sells Mexican fast-food snacks, Azucena who sells groceries, Alejandro who has a barber shop, Sonia who sells perfumery, Israel who works in construction, Dolores who sells tortillas, Irene who sells pocketbooks, Juan Carlos who sells clothes and Perfecta who also sells clothes. The group is located in the community of Vicente where people work growing sugarcane for sugar production.

Azucena, 35, completed high-school. She’s married to José Luis who is a laborer. They have two children, one attending secondary school and one in elementary school. Azucena tells us that she’s always liked to work and started out selling perfumery and shoes via catalogue house to house among her friends in the community. She also tells us that although she sold via catalogue she’d always had the dream of having her own little grocery store at home and with much effort a few years ago succeeded in opening it. She hopes that her business will grow day to day and wants to give her family a better quality of life and to help her husband with household expenses.

She tells us that even though she already has her little grocery store she continues selling her perfume and shoes in the evenings to have additional income coming into the home. She needs this loan to buy powdered detergent, beans, rice, cookies, soft-drinks, chlorine bleach, candy, juice, Sabritas (potato chips and snacks) and canned goods to then sell.

Azucena hopes with this loan that her business will be able to grow and that day to day she’ll have more customers. She is very grateful to the Fundación for the trust they’ve placed in her.

In this group: Lázara, Azucena, Alejandro, Sonia, Israel, Dolores, Irene, Juan Carlos, Perfecta
