A loan of $825 helped a member to buy gara-making materials: ink, caustic soda, powder, white cotton cloth, etc. in order to produce a large quantity of gara cloths to sell.

Tayepsu Group's story

Meet the members of the Tayepsu group from Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 700,000 Sierra Leonean Leones for each member. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales, and consequently improve on their living conditions.

Isatu is the leader of this group. The 32 year old is married to a trader, and they have three children who are attending secondary school. Isatu has been a businesswoman for many years now. She sells gara cloths (locally dyed cloths). With her share of this loan, she will buy gara-making materials: ink, caustic soda, powder, white cotton cloth, etc. in order to produce a large quantity of gara cloths to sell.
