A loan of $1,600 helped to buy merchandise to sell.

Patricia's story

Patricia belongs to the communal bank "Todos Juntos" ("All Together") of the city of Viña del Mar. She has been selling vegetables for 3 years. She works out of a shop that she set up in her house. She works every day, sometimes with the help of her son. She says that she buys merchandise at the market or to distributors specialised in vegetables, since both offer low prices and are thus convenient from an economic standpoint. With this loan she will buy merchandise to sell. One of her goals is to be able to finish her shop in order to welcome customers in a tidy fashion. Patricia lives with her husband and has a son and a grandson. Her goals for her family are to finish her shop in order to have a better quality of life and thus be able to increase her income. She is very glad and thankful for the opportunity afforded her by field partner Fondo Esperanza, since the loan will allow her to invest in her business. She also feels at ease in the communal bank group she belongs to, which motivates her to continue to participate. She also says that the training imparted during group meetings has helped her to better invest in her business. Viña del Mar is a city and commune situated in the middle of the Chilean coastline; it is known as 'the Garden City' because of the gardens and courtyards displayed by some of the antique buildings in the city. It is also deemed the tourist capital of Chile.
