A loan of $1,075 helped to buy merchandise for his party store.

Jefferson Alonso's story

Jefferson is 20 years old and he lives in Santo Domingo, one of the youngest cities in the country. It has recently become an important point between the mountain region and the coastal region of Ecuador. It's a special place, not just because of it's rich ethnic diversity but also for the unusual landscapes that can be seen as soon as you enter the city. Santo Domingo de los Colorados is part of the recently-formed province of Santo Domingo Tsáchilas. The main holiday in Santo Domingo is celebrated with a huge influx of visitors and commercial and cultural exchanges. A large fair takes place on the grounds of the Cattlemen's Association. At the fair, examples of the different breeds and mixed breeds of cows from ranches all over the region are shown in competition.

Jefferson has had a party supply store for 2 years. He started his business as soon as he turned 18 and his mother currently helps him run it. With his earnings he is able to contribute to the household income.

Starting the business was not easy because Jefferson has a very short credit history. Nonetheless, he has decided to make a big investment in merchandise in order to finally finish stocking his store, which lacks certain items like costumes and other things.

He hopes that with this loan he will be able to achieve his first short-term goal, which is to expand his clientele and make his business sustainable.
