A loan of $5,050 helped a member to buy ingredients to make tacos.

Flor Mechoacan Group's story

The group known as Flor Mechoacan is made up of 16 hardworking and humble people from the town of Santa Catarina Mechoacan. One of the traditions in this town is the festival of the patron saint which is celebrated on November 24th, in honor of Santa Catarina, with dances, games, fireworks, masses and processionals.

One of the members of the group is Patricia, 28, who is known as a friendly, hardworking woman of indigenous descent who wants to better herself. For 8 years she has been selling tacos made with cured meat, sausage, and chili meat. Her taqueria is at the taxi stand in her community. She started her business selling fried tacos in the street, but with her earnings she was able to buy benches and tables and one of her siblings lent her his house to put in a restaurant so she could better attend her customers.

She is happily married to Abel who helps out at the taqueria. They have two children: Abel Andres, 9, and Fatima Yoselin, 6. Patricia opens her business at four in the afternoon because in the morning she takes care of her children and takes them to school. She closes the taqueria at 9pm. She also makes napkins. She asked for a loan to buy more ingredients for her tacos like tortillas, beef, ground beef, sausage, oil and vegetables. She thanks the foundation for helping out indigenous peoples.
