Futuro Mejor Group's story

Paulino, age 32, is single and lives with his parents in a village in the Intibucá municipality. Ever since he was very young he has devoted himself to growing corn, beans, potatoes, and vegetables. He has been growing potatoes for ten years. He sells his production at the local market. He is currently requesting a loan for 20,000 lempiras, which is his fourth loan with ODEF. He will use the loan to buy potato seeds, fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides that he needs to maintain his potato crops. He is hoping that with this investment he will increase his crops and get greater production. His goal is to work more in order to get a better harvest and to improve the family’s finances. He is a member of the “Futuro Mejor” (Better Future) communal bank, which is comprised of three members. All of the members grow potatoes and lives in the same community. The group loan they are requesting is for 60,000 lempiras. In the photo Pedro is on the left, Paulino is in the middle, and Guillermo is on the right.
