A loan of $1,000 helped to buy phone cards, spare parts and accessories.

Beatriz Marlene's story

In the beautiful city of Bahía De Caraquez, known for its beautiful beaches, for its rich and varied gastronomy and for the quality of its people, the members of the Sociedad de Bahía communal bank meet every fortnight. It is in this place that we encounter Beatriz, who is 28 years old, married and with four children from this relationship aged 12, 10, 9 and 8, all of whom study at school. Her husband is a shopkeeper and in fishing seasons, he works as a fisherman.

Our friend works in sales along with her husband. They have a small shop in the city center where they sell all types of phone accessories and spare parts, cards and phone top-up cards. They work there every day. They tell us that they have been in this business for more than four years and that it is going very well. In fishing season, her husband goes fishing with other people, during which time she works alone. They purchase their goods in the city of Guayaquil.

She will use this loan to buy telephone cards, spare parts and accessories. She has been part of the Communal Bank for four years, and she likes it because the loans have helped her to grow the business. Her dream is to have a larger, better stocked store.
