Sonia María's story

Every fifteen days, the members of the the Communal Bank of the Bay Society come together in the beautiful city of Bahía De Caraquez, known for its lovely beaches, its rich and varied cuisine and the warmth of its people.

Sonia, who is 36 and lives in a domestic partnership, lives there. She has four children who are 19, 9, 6 and 4 years old. They are all in school or high school. Her husband is a businessman.

Sonia works so that she can help her husband with household expenses. She has a small restaurant in the city center which she rents and where she prepares delicious dishes. She works every day from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. She prepares both lunches and snacks. Her spouse helps out when he is unemployed. She has had her restaurant for two years and it has always done very well because her clients like the way she seasons the food. Her specialty is seafood.

She will use this loan to buy rice, meat, fish and other provisions for cooking. She has been in the Communal Bank for two years. She loves it because her first loan enabled her to start her business and things have been improving for her ever since.

Her dream is to own her own place and not have to pay rent.
