A loan of $700 helped to buy clothing, shoes, perfumes, and provisions.

María Elizabeth's story

In the beautiful city of Bahía de Caraquez, known for its beautiful beaches, for its rich and varied cuisine and for the warmth of its people, the communal bank Sociedad de Bahía meets twice a month.

María is a founding member of the communal bank and she likes it because they give loans in order to help her get ahead and much more after the death of her husband. She is 56 years old, a widow with three children who are all adults but one of them still lives with her along with two grandchildren living with her since they were little who are 18 and 12 years old, who are students at school and university.

Our friend, in order to get ahead and give what is necessary to her children and grandchildren, had to go into business. She has a small dining room in her home where she prepares delicious dishes, working every day from 6:00AM until 4:00PM. She also sells clothing, shoes, handbags, perfumes and other items. She sells at home and in the afternoons and evenings she travels about. Her grandchildren help her with the business. We note that she has had her dining room business for more than thirty years, since her husband died and she took over the sole care of the family and thanks to God she has always done well. Later she began selling other products.

She is going to use this loan to buy clothes, shoes, perfumes, and provisions for the preparation of her dishes.

Her goals are to get ahead in her business and give her grandchildren a good education.
