For several years, María has been creating artisanal garments. She enjoys her work because it feels good when she creates new designs. When she fist started it was just a hobby, and she gradually improved by taking courses and training herself in order to find better jobs and ensure that her creations are of good quality. After being encouraged by her friends, María started to offer her products for sale, particularly clothes, most of which are shirts, dresses and sweaters for children.

Her business has given her great satisfaction and among other things she was able to buy some furniture for her home and cover some of her family expenses. In future she would like to have a larger place that she can convert into a workshop to make her products and sell directly to the public. María is part of the communal bank “LIDER DE DEFENSORES” and she will use the loan to purchase wool, yarn and other materials needed for her creations.

María is the 5th lady from the right, wearing glasses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
